Schuylkill River Sojourn

The Schuylkill is more than a clogged expressway — the river it parallels is home to Pennsylvania history, vibrant communities and natural beauty. Explore them all off-road during the Schuylkill River Sojourn, a seven-day, 112-mile adventure by kayak and canoe.
Starting June 4 at Schuylkill Haven, the aquatic journey winds southeast through several scenic river towns, including Port Clinton and Pottstown, concluding at Philadelphia’s Boat House Row on June 10.
Each day brings a new town, program and experience on the water. You can sign up for the whole trip for $500 ($420 for kids) or paddle along on days of your choosing, with meals and transportation for your gear included.
This year’s theme: “Take Conservation Seriously,” features green programs by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources.
Attendance is on a first-come basis, so don’t delay. Visit the Schuylkill River National and State Heritage area’s website for registration forms and more information on prices, rules and lodging.

Chase Utley prepping for his return

Philadelphia Phillies second baseman Chase Utley(notes) is in Florida testing his knee to see if it is healthy enough for the rigors of a baseball season. At 32, it is unlikely that his nagging health issues will magically disappear. Instead, he and everyone else will learn how effectively he can perform while being less than 100 percent.
A trim Thor
Utley's best asset is also his greatest challenge.
Wikimedia Commons
No one gives a more concerted effort than Utley. When he first stepped to the plate in 2003, it was easy to see that he was a trim Thor who would soon wield his hammer on any pitch thrown to him.
Not initially the best of glove men, Utley made himself into a major league second baseman. He did that by taking grounder after grounder, day after day, in practice.
You are the man
The Pasadena kid's style of play evokes memories of Pete Rose, Lenny Dykstra, Aaron Rowand(notes) and a few other hard-nosed Philadelphia ballplayers from days gone by.
When the dearly-missed Harry Kalas branded Utley as "The Man", he could not have been more emotionally accurate.
Along with Jimmy Rollins(notes), this All-Star brought a passion to the team that had been missing from the organization's on-field persona for years. Their work ethics, combined with an increasing number of like-minded teammates, naturally resulted in a Philadelphia parade one beautiful fall day in 2008.
Assets and challenges
Utley doesn't know when to quit. He has never been seen playing cautiously before, so there is every reason to believe that he will continue to go all out when he returns to the big leagues.
His heart isn't the question at this point in his career. With his knee problem not solved, but "managed", a lingering issue still remains. How effective can Utley be and for how long?

Jim's Steaks

South Street is one of Philadelphia’s most well known areas. There's always something happening, no matter if you visit on a Wednesday afternoon or a Friday night.
The diversity of the area makes for an excellent customer base for Jim’s Steaks, South Street’s classic cheesesteak shop. The crowds can sometimes mean a long wait before you actually get to taste one of Jim’s fine cheesesteak sandwiches, because the line at Jim’s often stretches out the front door and around the corner onto Fourth Street.
However, it's all worth the wait. When you're in Philly stop by and have a cheesesteak!

CitiesRUs

If you're looking to travel, whether it be to Philly or any other city in the country, we highly recommend CitiesRUs. It's not just a website, it's a travel directory portal.

If you're trying to find flights, hotel rooms, rentals cars, or event tickets, they have it, for cities across the entire country. In addition, you can search through the best restaurants and make reservations, check out nightclubs, attractions, videos, photos, they really have it all. If you're looking for things to do in Philadelphia, or things to do in Los Angeles, it's all here, from coast to coast.

You can make all of your travel plans and make your vacation itinerary with ease. I recently went to San Francisco and got my flight and hotel for much less than I imagined. I also got tickets to Alcatraz and made a few reservations at restaurants that were recommended to me. It's a common complaint that traveling is a hassle. It certainly can be, but they make it simple.

With the wintery weather in the east coast, it got me thinking about the best warm weather travel destinations in the country. California, Florida, and Arizona immediately come to mind, but there are so many places out there that I've never been to. Do you guys have recommendations for some lesser-known, warm-weather vacation spots in the U.S.?

Today the market serves as a must see Philadelphia attractions, right up there with the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and the Art Museum.
